Dr. Bolona is a bilingual psychiatrist who is board-certified by the American Academy of Psychiatry and Neurology, specializing in General and Child/Adolescent Psychiatry. He has been in private practice in Westfield, New Jersey, and provides services as a consulting psychiatrist for various local school districts. Being able to help others live a more productive and stable life is one of his lifelong dreams, and he’s incredibly grateful for the opportunities that come his way.

Dr. Bolona received his medical degree from the Universidad Catolica Santiago of Guayaquil, Ecuador, and later completed his General Psychiatry Residency as well as his Child/Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center. During his time there, he also began instructing medical students and psychiatry residents on the different topics concerning child and adolescent mental and emotional wellness.

Edwin has more than 15 years in the medical field behind him. He earned his graduate degree in advanced nursing (with a specialty in mental health) from La Salle University. For the vast majority of his career, he has worked with mental health patients in various settings, including inpatient units, long-term care facilities, and outpatient care. He is proud to be a Board-Certified Mental Health Nurse Practitioner as well as an active member of both the Neuroscience Education Institute and the National Institute of Mental Health.

JoAnne has always had a passion for healthcare; she was an operating room nurse for around 35 years. But when a family tragedy struck, she found it difficult to find appropriate psychiatric care for her teenage daughter. This experience awakened her to a great need in the medical field, so she went back to school and attained her post Master’s Certificate in Advanced Practice Nursing from Monmouth College. She graduated in 2019, and she could not be more satisfied with the direction her career has taken

Jamie has been working in the world of psychiatry for around two decades — ever since she graduated from physician’s assistant school in 2006. Prior to becoming qualified as a physician’s assistant, she earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from Temple University. She is proud to be an active member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

She also holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Psychiatry. In order to maintain this distinction, she must pass a special board examination every 10 years and keep up with mandatory training.

Natalia is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 15 years of diverse medical experience, including roles in labor and delivery, acute, and cardiac care. She began practicing independently in March 2025 and currently works with adults in psychiatry. Natalia is pursuing advanced certification in perinatal mental health and was nominated for the Daisy Award for Nursing Excellence in 2024. Her qualifications are further strengthened by her compassionate approach, shaped by personal experience, and her dedication to supporting patients through challenging moments.

Hear What Our Patients Are Saying!

“I have had a great experience with the EMBRACE staff and have mutual clients that have provided positive feedback on their experience at EMBRACE. ARBOR and EMBRACE just finished cosponsoring a monthly networking series where we were able to collaborate closer on this Coffee & Connection project. It was a pleasure to work with Dr. Bolona and the Embrace Staff. We highly recommend the Embrace Team and continue to look forward in collaborating with their staff.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Mental health care is highly individualized for each unique patient. Our Wall Township team has all the experience and training necessary to address a range of mental health challenges using a variety of techniques. Some patients respond very well to different types of talk therapy; for example, we often find success with cognitive behavioral therapy. Medications are also very helpful in some cases. Our goal is to help you manage your symptoms, learn effective coping strategies, and enjoy an improved quality of life.

Young minds need a special touch when it comes to psychiatric care. You want a gentle and observant practitioner who is both compassionate and eager to help. Our team welcomes pediatric patients; Dr. Bolona has a wealth of experience with kids, and he even serves as a consulting psychiatrist for local school districts.

If you would like to learn specific details about how we may be able to help your child or teen, please call us to ask questions.

Our team usually starts by conducting a detailed interview. We may ask about your symptoms, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in order to gain an understanding of what you are going through. Sometimes, additional psychological tests are performed so we can be more confident in our diagnosis. Many mental health conditions have overlapping symptoms, so the more information we can gather, the better.

Often, listening in a nonjudgmental way is one of the best things that friends can do for someone who is struggling with their mental health. You can also encourage your friend to seek treatment (if they are not already doing so), as well as offer practical assistance if your friend’s condition makes it difficult for them to handle important tasks.

Psychiatry and psychology both fall under the umbrella of mental health care, but it is important to understand how they differ. Psychiatric care typically involves medical doctors (psychiatrists), who are qualified to diagnose mental health disorders and prescribe medications. You may benefit from psychiatric care if your symptoms require medical intervention or if you need ongoing medication management as part of your treatment plan.

Psychological care, on the other hand, focuses largely on therapy and counseling. Psychologists and licensed therapists help you explore your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors in a supportive environment. Through various forms of talk therapy, you can develop coping strategies, gain insights, and work toward improving your mental well-being.

These two approaches often work together to produce the best outcomes.
