Important Update: Schedule II Medication Prescribing
Effective March 1, 2026
Embrace Psychiatric Wellness Center is updating its policies regarding the prescribing of Schedule II controlled substances in accordance with New Jersey law.
As of March 1, 2026, all new patients must complete their initial psychiatric evaluation in person if Schedule II medications are being considered. Patients who are prescribed Schedule II stimulant medications will be required to attend an in-person visit at least once every three months in order to continue treatment.
These changes follow the expiration of temporary COVID-19 telemedicine waivers after Governor Phil Murphy signed Executive Order 415 ending the State of Emergency. Under N.J.S.A. 45:1-62(e), Schedule II controlled substances may only be prescribed via telehealth after an initial in-person examination, with an in-person follow-up required every three months. An exception remains for stimulant medications prescribed to patients under 18 years of age when proper parental or guardian consent is obtained and real-time audio and video technology is used.
If you have questions about how this may affect your care, please contact your provider or our office staff. We appreciate your understanding and remain committed to providing safe, compliant, and high-quality psychiatric care.
